What would you define as traditional cytogenetic methods? Are they simply banding techniques, or is there more to it?
I can think of plenty of advantages of PCR over this is cytogenetic studies but what are the advantages of ttraditional methods over PCR?

Well, by PCR you can determine presence/absence. You can even determine number of copies, but you can't determine position in your genome ;)

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
