UV Microscopy

Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but I was wondering if there is any danger to the eye associated with looking at fluorescent cells under UV microscope frequently and for long periods. Also once in a while I look at where the ray is touching my plate to make sure I am look...

DNA attachment to tubes

Hello, I use QIAGEN Plasmid Maxi kit to extract plasmid DNA from bacterial cells. In the final steps of the procedure I have to use a 30ml tube to elute the DNA with 15ml of buffer and then add 10.5ml of isopropanol to it to precipitate the DNA. Should I use plastic Flacon tubes or Glass tubes? I wa...

well having dashes where amino acids are the same with the consensus and showing only the "different" amino acids in an alignment provides a less complicated alignment and easier to read, that's my opinion at least. Yes I was thinking of writing a script for it, but I have seen some progra...

Format of multiple sequence alignment

Hello, I was wondering how I can a multiple sequence alignment that shows the amino acid identities as dots or dashes and only shows the amino acid symbol when there is a difference. I run the clustalW and choose different formats such as pir, phylip, gde, etc. but they show all the amino acid symbo...

Making SOC solution

Hello,

Could you please let me know how to prepare SOC solution from LB, MgCl2, MgSO4, and glucose?
I have the following recipe but I'm not sure if that's correct:

800 ul LB
4 ul MgCl2 (1M)
4 ul MgSO4 (1M)
16 ul glucose (1M)

Thanks for your help.

Re: Cleaning DNA from test tube

Thank you for your feedbacks. Yes, it's after the MaxiPrep, so I have already collected my DNA and just want to get rid of these residues on the sides of the tube so that they won't contaminate my future experiments. I will try the brush and detergent and if that's not successful, I will use the 0.1...

Cleaning DNA from test tube

Hello, I have used 30ml KIMBLE test tubes for DNA MaxiPrep application. I still have traces of DNA on the sides of the tube and I have tried washing it with high pressure water or leaving water in it overnight for the DNA to redisolve but none have worked and I still see the traces on the sides. Sho...
