hmm maybe a microscope, few slides, stains, petri dishes some culture medium you can probably whip it up at home. Ignoring the cost of the microscope you can probably do this under 50 dollars maybe even less

I got to agree with Jack on this. The every generation vs every other generation inheritance is the key to this problem. Ask your doctor if this is Huntington's. It affects males and females disproportionally shown in some studies. Females seem to have a later onset in some studies. But in general ...

Try an acid fast stain. It's either nocardia or TB when the test is positive
