DOWN SYNDROME HELP ASAP !

Why is it that with maternal age increasing, the chances of having a DOWN SYNDROME child will increase as well

1/900 births -- age 30
1/350 births -- age 35
1/100 births -- age 40+

as well why is it that majority of the children who have down syndrome today have mothers who are early aged?
