Mouse Ear

People often mistake this as being the result of genetic manipulation. The ear has in fact been grafted on to the mouse.

Check under The Central Dogma - DNA make RNA (transcription) which then makes protein (translation). Transcription is different for prokaryotes and eukaryotes (though they do share some general features). I'd go for "An Introduction to Genetic Analysis" by Anthony J. F. Griffiths, Jeffrey H. Miller, David T.Suzuki, Richard C. Lewontin, and William M. Gelbart. Published by WH Freeman.
