Wolff-Chaikoff effect --> Wolff-Chaikoff block

blocking of the organic binding of iodine and its incorporation into hormone caused by large doses of iodine; usually a transient effect, but in large doses in susceptible individuals it can be prolonged and cause iodine myxoedema.
