(Science: cardiology, virology) inflammation of the heart muscle that is caused by an infection with a virus. Coxsackie B is most common in the U.S.A., but Coxsackie A, influenza, rubeola, rubella, adenovirus, hIV and echovirus can all cause myocarditis.
