Control of embryonic gene translation

... Now, the ends are brought together so that a ribosome, after it has finished translation of the mRNA and has broken apart into the two ribosomal subunits, the subunits will be in an ideal position to re-associate and start the cycle again. this increases the amount of protein made from an mRNA ...

Re: What is a mer? Measure of DNA

A polymer has many subunits. An oligomer has a few subunits. A monomer has only one. A number in front of the suffix "mer" indicates a specified number of subunits. When applied to DNA, this specifies the number of bases ...

PEPC in maize seedlings

... think it was absolutely pure), I ran the mixture through SDS-PAGE, there were 2 visible bands on it. Knowing that maize PEPC contains 4 identical subunits with Mr of about 110KD, I am confused by the result that both the 2 bands (one was 110KD another was bout 65KD) were visible after a western ...

Re: What is a monomer?

... "problematic" in that sense. Some, as you say, are obvious polymers. Others are clearly made up of identifiable "monomeric" subunits which, in the case of the isoprenoids, for example, are even formed by repeated condensation reactions sequentially adding one five-carbon ...
