Single stranded RNA virus

Definition

noun

A virus in which the genetic material is a single stranded RNA.


Supplement

The ssRNA viruses may belong to either Class IV or V of the Baltimore classification system. They can be further grouped into negative sense or positive sense according to the sense of polarity of their RNA. The most common features of these viruses are the single stranded RNA, and replication occurring in the cytoplasm.
