reducing

From reduce.

(Science: chemistry) Reducing furnace, a furnace for reducing ores. Reducing pipe fitting, a pipe fitting, as a coupling, an elbow, a tee, etc, for connecting a large pipe with a smaller one. Reducing valve, a device for automatically maintaining a diminished pressure of steam, air, gas, etc, in a pipe, or other receiver, which is fed from a boiler or pipe in which the pressure is higher than is desired in the receiver. Any process in which electrons are added to an atom or ion (as by removing oxygen or adding hydrogen); always occurs accompanied by oxidation of the reducing agent.

sterilization in microwave oven

... wanted to sterilize has been exposed to enough heat to kill all bacteria and viruses. So to wrap this up, microwave will allow the disinfection (reducing the amount of bacteria/viruses to safe levels) of what you put in them, but they are neither safe nor reliable for sterilization (destroying ...

cellular respiration???

... the end of Krebs cycle. In the third step the high energy electron carriers (10 NAD and 4 FAD) are oxidized in the ETS. Both of these high energy reducing agents dump their electrons into the ETS and the two protons (carried by each of them) are transferred into the inter membrane space (space ...

membrane permeability

... not move across the membane at the same rate! In the second step of Na+/K+ ATPase 3 Na+ ions move out of the cell into the extracellular space reducing an ATP molecule to ADP. In turn, in the 4th step of the NA+/K+ ATPase, two K+ ions move into the cell, while also loosing an attached phosphate ...

Diversifying selection

... selection since it leads to diversity would increase variation. However, It also leads to the elimination of intermediate traits thereby reducing variation. So I am unsure what the overal effect of diversifying selection is-increase in variation or decrease? For example, in the galapagos ...

Cell lysis and Lowry assay for 2D electrophoresis

... and grinding techniques for cell lysis 2)Can I use Lowry assay if I use this 2D sample buffer for cell lysis. I know that Lowry assay is not reducing agent compatible, but the DTT concentration in this 2D buffer is 50mM. Do you think it will interfere with the Lowry assay? 3)I assume I can't ...
