Pneumococci

(Science: bacteria) gram-positive pyogenic organisms (about 1m diameter), usually encapsulated, closely related to streptococci, associated with diseases of the lung.

pneumococci is mainly associated with pneumonia but it can also cause infections of the brain (pneumococcal meningitis) and of the blood stream (pneumococcal septicemia)
