The reason you are asking this question has to be with the simplicity of the single celled organism and its use of osmosis to gain nourishment, correct?

... the offspring to face many survival challenges. I just don't get the complete picture of females investing in offspring rearing. They do provide nourishment and develop the offspring to maturity...after that what is their role?
