navicular disease

A common cause of lameness in horses, especially light racing animals; it is essentially a chronic osteitis of the navicular bone associated with bursitis and inflammation of the plantar aponeurosis; occurs most frequently in the forefeet and is believed to be due to damage from frequent and severe strain.
