Staphyltect test mechanism

I understand that during a staphylococcus test, the substance added to the bacterial sample reacts to form lumps, identifying a positive result. I therefore assume that the antigens on the surface of the bacteria must bind to proteins on the reagent, however i would highly apprechiate ...
