Kinetochore

A specialized condensed region of each chromosome that appears during mitosis where the chromatids are held together to form an X shape; the centromere is difficult to sequence.

kinetochore is the specialized proteinaceous part of the centromere to which the spindle fibres attach.

As what MrMistery said, the spindle fibers actually attach to the kinetochore which are located within the centromere.

chromatid - mitosis

the centromere is a region of the chromosome. The kinetochore is a specialized structure that attaches to the spindle. The spindle microtubules directly attach to the kinetochore.

chromatid - mitosis

I'm confused. During mitosis are spindles attached to centromeres or kinetochore of a chromatid? Some information I read says on, some says the other and then I've also read that spindles attach to both. Is this possible?
