Hanging drop slide

(Science: microscopy) a glass slide with a concavity or a built-up chamber which allows a drop of culture to be placed on a cover- slip inverted over the cell. It makes possible the examination of freely moving protozoa, etc., confined only by the limits of the drop and the bottom surface of the coverslip.
