Dictionary » F » Filtration FiltrationDefinition noun, plural: filtrations (1) The movement of water and solutes across the cell membrane due to hydrostatic pressure from the cardiovascular system. (2) The process of separating suspended particles from the fluid through a porous material in which the fluid can pass while the suspended particles are retained.
An example of filtration in the body is renal (ultra)filtration, a process in which the blood is filtered in the glomerulus of the kidney so that substances (e.g. cells and proteins) that are essential can be retained and selectively reabsorbed by the body.

Salt water fishHi all! I came across this question but not sure how to tackle it. I've provided ideas below. Q. Why is filtration rate of salmon increased and reabsorption rate decreased when it moves from seawater to fresh water? I have a feeling it has something to do with concentration ...

FiltrationI am taking A & P one of my homework questions is: In terms of filtrartion, define selevtivity What would happen to the filtration rate if you were to apply pressure to the filtration system? What might happen to filtration if the water pressure damaged the membrane? How might this ...

Transport across a cell membrane - Dissolution?... cell/tissues/systems etc... In this assignment, transport across a cell membrane had to be described - I used diffusion, osmosis, active & filtration - no probs there. My problem came with 'Dissolution' - This was described in one of my books for fatty substances too big to diffuse and ...
