(Science: anatomy) erectile tissue, a tissue which is capable of being greatly dilated and made rigid by the distension of the numerous blood vessels which it contains.

Hormones particularly testosterone and dopamine take effect causing the erectile tissue to fill with blood from the arteries. As the tissue fills, the increasing pressure seals off the veins that drain the penis causing it to engorge with blood.

... of mechanism where NO is involved (including in brain functionning) I guess that if your N level were so low that you could not make enough NO, erectile dysfunction would definitely not be high on your priority list of problems. And Nitrogen is quite common in all food. Definitely not something ...
