Epstein-barr virus

(Science: virology) species of herpetoviridae that is responsible for infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever). Discovered in 1964, this virus has been associated with burkitts lymphoma in south african children and with nasopharyngeal carcinoma in Asian populations.
