Epsom salt

(Science: medicine) sulphate of magnesia having cathartic qualities; originally prepared by boiling down the mineral waters at Epsom, England, whence the name; afterwards prepared from sea water; but now from certain minerals, as from siliceous hydrate of magnesia.
