Cricoid cartilage

(Science: anatomy) The lower most of the laryngeal cartilages, may be palpated just below the thyroid prominence adjacent the cricoid cartilage and the first tracheal ring is the cricothyroid membrane, a site used for rapid emergency airway access (cricothyroidotomy).
