Dictionary » C » Consensus sequence Consensus sequenceConsensus sequence Of a series of related dna, rna or protein sequences, the sequence that reflects the most common choice of base or amino acid at each position. Areas of particularly good agreement often represent conserved functional domains. The generation of consensus sequences has been subjected to intensive mathematical analysis. ![]()

Results from our forumSequencing... overlap, given enough copies you should be able to build a contiguous consensus based on overlaps. Theoretically you could have a bunch of frags as short as 4bps long and still be able to get a decent length of sequence.

Re: Can anyone help with this RNA questionIf this is mRNA, why are there Ts in the sequence? This is supposed to represent the promoter region maybe? The promoter isn’t ... for example. There may not be (in fact, probably won't be) an exact fit to the consensus. I don’t think the Shine-Dalgarno sequence should be in this stretch of ...

RNA nucleotides question... question is somewhat confusing. The only GTA I see is in the coding sequence. If you delete the GTA, you have a three-base deletion. It doesn’t ... have anything to do with the Shine-Dalgarno sequence. In E. coli, the consensus Shine-Delgarno box is AGGAGGA. It’s function is to recruit and ...
