The dried unripe fruit of conium maculatum (family Umbelliferae), also known as spotted cowbane or spotted parsley; it has been used as a sedative, antispasmodic, and anodyne.

Synonym: hemlock.

Origin: L. Fr. G. Koneion, hemlock
