... this syrup increases the viscosity of the water without harming the protozoa right away and slowing down the movements of some of the faster ciliates and flagellates that you will encounter, for a much better look see. :D

Some type of Hydrazoan (Weird looking... I have no idea!) Look at all this diversity I found in just my first ...

Microorganisms - please help identify

... longer/more slender with the entire body surface being ciliated…so the second one could possibly be stylonychia or euplotes, also members of the ciliates. The last one almost sounds like a rotifer (or Stentor coeruleus if was trumpet shaped when extended) by the way you’ve described its action ...

magnetosomes

Certain ciliates have such structures in them as well, Loxodes is one if I remember correctly, and they are used to orient the organisms in relation to gravity...... DavidLennartz
