Avicula

(Science: zoology) a genus of marine bivalves, having a pearly interior, allied to the pearl oyster; so called from a supposed resemblance of the typical species to a bird.

Origin: L, small bird.

avicula is also the name of an Italian ornithological journal, volume 1 - 11 (1897-1907). The full name is: avicula giornale ornitologico italiano. Its cover has a drawn bird with the following text: Passer italiae parvus sed omnino italicus. Published by Direttore Cav. Sigismondo Brogi, place of publication Siena by (U.T. 2007)
