1. (Science: physiology) The act of inhaling.

2. (Science: psychology) strong desires to accomplish something. This usually pertains to greater values or high ideals.

Origin: L. Spirare = to breathe The act of inhaling; the drawing in of air (or other gases) as in breathing.
