pH of ammonium carbonate

Postby Draco on Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:58 am

I can't remember what pH ammonium carbonate is.
I've searched http://en.wikipedia.org.wiki/Ammonium_carbonate but I can't find the answer there.
I need to know the pH so I can find out if phenolphthalein would work better in a titration with HCl than screened methyl orange would.
Thanks for the help.

A solution of 100g/l in water at 20 C has a pH of 9.

And that would make the phenolphthalein the better indicator, right?

I don't recall the indicator points for the two dyes. Whichever is closer to pH 9, I suppose would be the indicator of choice.
