Biochemistry and Grad School

Hello,

I am currently an undergrad Microbiology student. After graduation I would like to get a Ph.D. in human genetics. I have a decent science GPA but had problems in biochemistry. I ended up getting a 'D' in the class. I believe I can get a better grade, possibly even an 'A' if I retake it.

Should I bother retaking biochemistry or just keep the grade I have?

I will be applying to grad schools next fall, the same semester I would be retaking biochemistry. Would this affect the decision to retake at all?

If you can't retake in time to submit your grade with your grad school application, don't bother. Instead, ace the GRE Biochemistry subject test to prove that you've learned the material (study over the summer and take the test in the fall - results will arrive in time for your grad school applications). Some programs require a subject test, and having a good score will always help you get in, so it is not a waste of your time and money.
