Survival knowledge thread

Please share survival knowledge if you ever should be stranded on an island.

I might be staying on one of the islands south for Malaysia for a couple of months and was wondering if anybody could help me find some info/websites regarding what plants and food/insects I could find in the jungle there for eating.
I don't have much time, maybe a month or two, so right now I'm trying to do some research so that I can be a little bit prepared.

Any help will be much appreciated.
I hope some Malaysian users can reply


Another question:
I remember seing this on TV: Some guy used saltwater to filter it through a t-shirt. He did this 3 times and claimed that the water was safe to drink. True...?
