Shine dalgarno sequenceIn a E. coli mRna strand what would happen if the shine dalgarno sequence was removed? Would mRNA still be transcribed from the gene? Would protein still be translated?
do you know the role of the Shine-Dalgarno sequence?
"I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I want to understand the universe and answer the big questions, that is what keeps me going" - Stephen Hawking
If the role is to make something happen, then removal would cause it to not happen?
Consequently, if it has no role in making something happen, then removal would have no effect. Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; ~Niebuhr
Think of it as a way of controlling how often a baseball pitching machine throws a ball. If there is a Shine-Dalgarno gear in place, the machine throws 100 balls a minute. If you take out the gear, it only throws 10 balls a minute. If each ball represents 1 polypeptide chain, compare the results of running the machine for one minute with and then without its Shine-Dalgarno gear in place.
