RNA nucleotides questionOk I have the following strand -
CTTTTTAGAGGAAAA ATG CTA ATT TTT TCT CCC CTT TAC GAA ATT CTA ATA GTA AAA AAC CAC TTC ..... I have separated the protein coding parts to make it easier. So The first chunk part - is that the Shine dalgarno sequence? Also If the GTA is taken out what will happen to the amount of mRna transcibed? will it increase decrease etc. what about the overall size of the mRNA molecule? increase decrease stay same The amount of protein translated will decrease wont it? the no. of amino acids in the protein translated from the mRNA will also decrease wont it? I'm just a bit confused, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I think your question is somewhat confusing. The only GTA I see is in the coding sequence. If you delete the GTA, you have a three-base deletion. It doesn’t alter the reading frame, it just eliminates one residue from the amino acid sequence.
But this doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the Shine-Dalgarno sequence. In E. coli, the consensus Shine-Delgarno box is AGGAGGA. It’s function is to recruit and properly align the ribosomes with the start codon of the coding sequence of the mRNA. Mutating the Shine-Delgarno sequence should have little or no effect on transcription, but may reduce translation.
