metasynaptic gap: what is it filled withneural transmitters cross the metasynaptic gap and are basically the 1s and 0s of a computer. but what do these neural transmitters cross through? I mean is there a gel of some kind or is it air or someting?

I am not sure what a metasynaptic gap is, but for synaptic transmission.
Check this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neurotransmitter Also here http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/matt ... trans.html The last link has animations.
if by metasynaptic gap you mean the space between two neurons in a synapse, it is filled with extracellular fluid.

extra cellular fluid being what exactly? I find the biology of lesser spiecies fascenating..... thats why I study humans

the fluid in nervous tissue outside cells. Naturally i don't know exactly what it contains chemically, but i can tell you there's water, Na and Cl in high amounts and all sorts of metabolites that the neurons release and the neuroglia take up. I guess you could search for articles that will detail the exact chemical composition of this fluid in humans(although my guess is the composition depends on how active the neurons around the spot you are analyzing are).

no, not salt water. THere is Na and Cl among the other things
