chromosomes of fungi

Postby anamaria on Thu Jan 03, 2008 3:30 pm

Hi everyone,
Can you help me? I need to find an answer to this question - how much chromosomes has a cell of fungi? I don't need chromosome number of particular fungi. I need some general information for the entire group.
Thanks in advance

aha, good question. Well techincally a fungi cell is haploid: has n number of chromosomes. and only certain reproducing cells are diploid. But a fungus with many nuclei in one citoplasmic mass has many many more chromosomes doesn't it? Look up hyphae
