The family can do it. Or, if not, the state. There's plenty of people willing to sue for anything these days.....
hi. with many case, if euthanasia was legal, there would be many sides to every battle. when my grandmother was extremely ill from cancer the doctors did very little, all they seemed to do was give her drugs to ease the pain and in the end could not speak any sense or communicate with her family. it was a sad lonely and undignified death for her and im sure if euthanasia was legal she may have decided that was the course of action to take.
however there is a different case with my grandfather who died of cancer last year, the doctors did everything in their power to keep him free of pain but in a dignified sense of mind and he passed away peacefully, having still being in contact with family members upto the last moments and he may not have choosen euthanasia as his course of action. euthanasia depends on the personal battle of ever single patient, and you cannot place 2 individuals in the same condition in the same area (if that makes sense?) as you can see above. accident victims, cancer victims and victims of other diseases deserve evr chance they should get but if that person has no quality of life what is the point in causing more harm than good? it is upto the individual. in the netherands there are strict regulations that have to be followed: the individual must give consent 30 days before, there has to be a report from 2 doctors and they have to have the same desision, you must be over 18, the doctor has to inform a coroner of the circumstances of the death and the coroner then decides if it was justified or whether the doctor should be charged. this is just my opinion and some information i found out when researching the topic for coursework 2 years ago.
As do I James, it is up to the person if they are willing to fight the disease or not. However if it is a mental illness and they make poor decisions, this brings another argument into play..........
