Defective GenesHow can a defective allele present in one copy along with a wild type one, show the phenotype of a homozygous defective individual? Can you please give me an example?
Assuming the wild type is functional, and the mutant nonfunctional, and if the wild type allele doesn't fully compensate you can see some of the effects.

Say you had an allele that coded for a red pigment in flowers, and the mutant makes a colorless variant. A pink heterozygote gives you a hint of what the homozygote looks like.
