Questions about treesIn large trees, for example, this involves a huge amount of water being pumped over a very long distance. This obviously represents a great deal of work, and that, in turn, requires energy. Wht is the source of this energy, and how is this water pumping operation accomplished???
Hey Peter!
I think you could start to answer that question by researching plant transpiration. Here are 2 links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transpirational_pull http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transpiration hope this will help answer your question Good luck! - KIM
actually no sachin. capillary action does contribute, but the main factor in the ascention of water through xylem in trees is the sucktion of leaves.
