Multiple origins?a puzzle with the origin of life i've been thinking about for a long time is why dont it happen again? let me explain. the origin of life was basically some kind of chance chemical combination creating a molecule capable of making copies of itself. there is nothing to stop this happening again today or sometime in the past, so why dont we see new forms of life constantly emerging that use different kinds of chemical systems. theres 5 basic reasons why i think not:
1.it is happen again and again but these new forms of life become assimilated into the already dominant form of life. 2.for some reason these chance chemical combinations were only possible when the earth was young and hot. 3.the formation of a replicating molecule is so incredibly unlikely its only gonna happen once during a planets lifetime. 4.there is only one possible chemical/genetic system that life can use 5.all science is wrong. my bet is on 1. how about you?
I don't think anyone knows the answer, but my bet would be that the formation of life from nonlife requires a highly diverse collection of organic molecules and lots of time. In a world that is already filled with life, you're not going to get that situation because some previously existing life form is going to consume at least some of those complex organic molecules.
So, my bet is that living things tend to disturb the conditions that are necessary for life to form from nonlife.
A look in the bio book would tell you tha the prebiotic soup theory requires an oxygen-less environment which doesn't break down and oxidize everything. Or as said in the previous post, undisturbed by organisms already living
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; ~Niebuhr
I don't think any of the people would say that, because, science is most of our lives. And as mithril said the key is OXYGEN... Starting of life was in an oxygenless envionment. Even if some organic molecules form now, they will be oxidized. It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishment the scroll I am the Master of my fate I am the Captain of my soul.
Think about it.
The bible does not have any time account of the first three days. Could those first three days been billions of years? Could God actually be the creator of evolution?
Please can we not bring religion into this debate. I just don't want to get myself banned for saying something other people feel very strongly about. And its a forum rule
