i know that.but i dont understand the sentence:
'animal that consumes decomposing organic particles, deriving nutrition primarily from microbes on the particles.'
that's why i ask in the forum!

ok, simpler terms, one turns it into poop, the other turns it into simpler organic compounds.

For example detritivore=vulture
decomposer=bacteria
