Mushrooms arn't plants they are fungi. I would think this discussion would belong more in the microbiology section as a lot of fungi are mircobes and even through mushrooms obviously arn't they were covered in my microbology unit. I done a bit of reserach on it and found that it's very posionous. As for what fungi feeds on, they live on dead matter. For eg when food rots the mould that grows on it is fungi. Botany doesn't study only plants. Both algae and fungi, although not classified as plants, are the study of botany.
And fungi can also be parazites
