Does anyone know the differences between xanthophyll, carotenoid, chlorophyll, and anthocyanins, relative to function and extraction? This question pertains to a paper chromatography lab.

Is this what you are looking for?
* Carotene - an orange pigment
* Xanthophyll - a yellow pigment
* Chlorophyll a - a blue-green pigment
* Chlorophyll b - a yellow-green pigment
* Phaeophytin - a grey pigment

They all have various roles. For example, whyle clorophyll only has a role in photosynthesis by accepting photons and releasing energized electrons, carotenoid pigments also serve for photoprotection, and anthocyanins in polenisation(for atracting insects)
