Your question is not that clear.
I'm assuming that you mean functions of protein on human body. For building of protoplasm. For growth and repair. Constituent of cell membrane. A source of energy. During deamination, glucose is formed. Botany is the study of what? Bottoms!
And also, for building osmotic pressure in the plasma fluid inside the blood vessel to balance hydrostatic pressure and insterestiil pressure caused by the plasma itself...
Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?

mucus is a protein? Isn't it a mixture of proteins, water, sugars and electrolites or something similar?
