Rubisco

Postby shardy7984 on Mon Nov 21, 2005 2:51 am

I have a question about Rubisco & light reactions.

Why does a poison that inhibits rubisco in the Calvin Cycle, also inhibit light reactions?

Is it b/c of carbon fixation & photorespiration? Or does that have nothing to do with it? But Oxygen is the poison that inhibits the enzyme right?
Sorry, this is something that just confuses me.

The light reactions stop....

Poison that affects rubisco causes a stop in the calvin cycle. This means that all the NADPH from the light reactions have no where to place their electrons and become NADP+. This causes a stop in the light reactions because excitating the electrons in chlorophyll no longer produces useable electrons.
