microorganism in alcohol

Who can show me which microorganism can live (or alive for a long time) in hight content of ethanol. And what concentration is it?

What about brewers yeast? Then can tolerate 12-15% alcohol by volume.

12-15%? Of course it's low..some microorganisms can live in that condition...I think they can't tolerate anymore to Ethyl alcohol with 70-98% concentration by volume... :lol:
Hey, do you know...adding ethanol 98% to your gasoline tank in your motorcycle with comparison 10 : 90 might add your machine performance... :lol:

I ask this question because some bacteria can use ethanol as a carbon source, so I think they have hight tolerance such as Methylobacter

Mycoderma aceti. Uses ethanol and turns it to ethanal. Tolerates 100% i guess, or something really close to that.

It will. However it is my recommandation that you don't do that since it will ruin your engine in the long run. A much cheaper and better choise would be biodiesel: used cooking oil. Environmently friednly, too. Which is a lot more than i can say about gasoline :twisted: :twisted:

Biodiesel doesn't work on every car. Ethanol is a regular addition to the gas in America, simply because the corn lobbists say it's cleaner.

Really? I read the exact opposite in a magazine here in Romania. But then again, it wasn't a science one so i am not sure about the info

Acetobacter bacteria can convert alcohol into acetic acid (it's responsible for turning wine into vinegar) but I have no idea what it's maximum alcohol content is.
something tells me it is probably around 12%??

It can happens if you make more than this comparison.
ethanol : gasoline = 24 : 76

The result is, your machine won't work... :lol:

I think there 're a wrong thing.
I mean some microoganism use ethanol as a carbon source (methylotropth), it is different with use ethanol in electron transport chain (... I forget the term: yeast-->ethanol--acetobacter-->acetic acid)
But Mycoderma aceti is quite good. Thanks
