doble fertilization-first genusHello, I need to know the first genus in which double fertilization occured. I cannot find it anywhere. I think it could be Magnolia or some genus from degeneriaceae. If anyone knows please help.
Thanks
Double fertilisation occurs in all angiosperms, so the first plant to do double fertilisation was the first angiosperm probably. It is not known which plant it is exactly. If you find out, let us know

I think it is known which genus probably was the first cause we learned it but i forgot it or i was not that much interested in it that time and now i cannot find it. Yeah probably magnolia cause it is recently the most primitive angiosperm genus. But then it could be it lyriodendron too. Or degeneria? Ok...I will wait and maybe some botanical expert will go along.
What if it is some genus that has disappered for one reason or another?

Yeah extinct genus i count in with it. But surely it must be from family magnoliaceae cause i read that these angiosperms spread throughout the world already at the end of mesosoic era.
Yes that is correct. Dr.Stein may also be right. I am just saying that it is hard if not impossible to tell. Basically what you need is the first genus of angiosperms on the planet...

I think Benetitales was the first order of Angiosperms.
