Complementary Base Pairing

Postby nataliehellio » Tue Oct 27, 2009 10:01 pm

I have been asked:
Explain the signficance of complementary base pairing in relation to the cell cycle.

I have done lots of outside research on this topic but cannot find any specifics to answer this question
Any help would be much appriciated.
Thank you

Perhaps the DNA repair checkpoints during the cell cycle? If there is not complementary base pairing (mismatched pairing) then the cell cycle will halt until the DNA repair is done (excision of mismatched pair and replacement of correctly complementary base pairing put in).

Perhaps explaining that complementary base pairing provides a means to replicate the genetic material - quite important for the cell cycle....

Ah okay thank you for all your comments, yeah dougal you are correct, it provides a means to replicate the genetic material.
Thank you!
