Dominant / recesive phenotype

Postby Nad on Mon Jul 14, 2008 1:50 pm

Hey all,

Fact:
A heterozygote with alleles Rr, express the dominant phenotype determined by "R".

Question:
At molecular level , what cause "R" to be expressed and not "r" ? How is the allele corresponding to the dominant phenotype selected for expression ? Why it, and not "r" ?

I am merely a bio enthusiast, so please excuse me if the answer is obvious for you guys.
