PCR and microsatellites

Postby dotti321 on Sun May 04, 2008 3:10 am

You have two populations of endangered tigers separated by village. After relocating the villagers the two populations of tigers now have overlapping territories. Your colleague has asked you to help him test whether the two populations preferentially interbreed, or if they have become genetically isolated. Since you are not comfortable working with tigers explain to him how you could perform such a study using fruit-flies (let him worry about how to catch tigers and so forth). Please provide an explanation that involves the use of PCR and microsatellite analysis. Make sure you include a way of studying both founder populations as well as potential hybrids.
