I am here with very strange question? ma Biophysics teacher has given me an assignment in which I have to elaborate cell surface modification and cell surface modification with respect to transporation. I have tried on google but failed.

I need help in this regard, help me with answer asap.

Do you mean in regards of changing cell surface area to make diffusion rate faster? Meaning the cell changes surface area to have a better diffusion rate. I need to know a bit more about what he is asking you to investigate before I can help you.

There is two ways for change this: to insert by genetic engeniering proteins that involved at the process of diffusion, and anothe to chage persentage of different lipids at the membrane. How second thind is usefull I don't know - it is seems to me difficalt, but you can to such by those directions.

Cell surface modification is a process of re-arrangement of lipid bi layer on cell surface in order to execute various physiological functions like adhesion, transportation, cell signaling etc.

For example If a doctor is going to replace hip joint he has to make whatever the substances used in making of artificial hip joint biocompatible so it can be accepted by body..
