Fossilization & Mass Extinction

1-What circumstances or conditions would favor an organism becoming fossilized?

2-What evidence is there for mass extinction occurring now in the world?

I will give you a few hints... Think about what type of rock most fossils are found in. Also, think about the structure of the rocks... Are there layers? If so, how were these formed? Thinking about it like this should help you out.
