Questions about trees

Postby peterjeon05 on Fri Jan 19, 2007 12:05 am

In large trees, for example, this involves a huge amount of water being pumped over a very long distance. This obviously represents a great deal of work, and that, in turn, requires energy. Wht is the source of this energy, and how is this water pumping operation accomplished???

Hey Peter!

I think you could start to answer that question by researching plant transpiration.

Here are 2 links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transpirational_pull

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transpiration

hope this will help answer your question

Good luck!

actually no sachin. capillary action does contribute, but the main factor in the ascention of water through xylem in trees is the sucktion of leaves.
